Prescribed burn in northwest Georgia today

VILLANOW, Georgia (WDEF) – The Forest Service is burning 562 acres in northwest Georgia on Friday.

You can expect to see smoke over the Johns Mountain Wildlife Management area in Walker County.

Today’s prescribed burn is between Villanow and Resaca.

The Forest Service is burning different tracks of land to reduce the fuel for wildfires and improve wildlife habitat conditions.

There are also prescribed bans in the Cherokee & and Chattahoochee National Forests in the mountains.
