Protest Over Chattanooga Police Dept. Budget

Chattanooga (WDEF) – A dozen protesters are standing outside Chattanooga City Hall.

They’re against the Chattanooga police department receiving 60 point seven million dollars next fiscal year.

Concerned Citizens for Justice is leading this effort.

Members say the police department is expected to get about 5-million dollars more than last year.

And that’s more funding than any other city agency.

Mark Gilliland with Concerned Citizens for Justice told us "We really urge people to look into this, look into the budget and, like, just recognize that we’ve given over half a billion dollars to the police over the last 10 years and that hasn’t stopped crime and hasn’t stopped the violence. So we need to take a new approach."

The Chattanooga City Council is expected to vote on the issue in the coming days.
