Rainbow Family of Living Light coming to Georgia Mountains

Gainesville, Georgia (WDEF) – Ready or not, the Rainbow Family of Living Light is coming to the Chattahoochee National Forest in the Georgia mountains this summer.

The 2018 national gathering will be near Bull Mountain, just outside of Nimblewill, between Ellijay and Dahlonega for July 4th.

We could see anywhere from 5,000-10,000 people in the park from now until then.

They’ve been holding them since 1972 in National Parks across the country.

The Rainbow Family of Living Light is a loose-knit group of people from around the world who come together to pursue social and spiritual activities and to pray for world peace.

Some call them enlightened travelers, others call them hippies.

But you can expect to come across large crowds in small places, like community stores or campgrounds.

And you’re going to hear a lot of drumming!

The USDA Forest Service manages the event with state and local agencies.

“We understand there may be impacts to our community, our neighbors and other forest visitors,” Forest Supervisor Betty Jewett said.

“We will work hard to minimize effects to our local communities and the environment. All national forest visitors are expected to obey federal, state and local laws and regulations, and we take the enforcement of these laws very seriously.”
