Rash of vehicle thefts in Fort Oglethorpe

Fort Oglethorpe, Georgia (WDEF) — Fort Oglethorpe police are investigating a rash of vehicle thefts and items stolen from vehicles. They say this has been going in various neighborhoods for the past three weeks.

Investigators say they believe three teenagers or young men are canvassing neighborhoods in the middle of the night looking for vehicles that have been left unlocked.

So far there have been more then 20 reported cases of vehicle thefts believed to have been committed by the same suspects.

In some cases, vehicles have been stolen because keys were left in the cars.

Many different items including guns have been stolen.

“It is the holiday season. Don’t leave your vehicle unlocked. don’t leave items of value in plain sight and especially please don’t leave your guns in the car,” says Johnny Lanham with Fort Oglethorpe Police.

So far, 4 guns have been reported stolen from vehicles left in driveways.

Police also believe the same suspects have targeted vehicles in other North Georgia counties.
