Red Bank Elementary’s Becca McKnight helps each student understand & have fun

Some teachers won’t give up until every student understands.

Red Bank Elementary has just such a teacher and her students love her for it…

Becca McKnight is this week’s Golden Apple Award winner.

For teacher Becca McKnight… The 8 and 9 year olds in her Red Bank classroom are right up her alley.

The third grade teacher says the kids connect with her zany sense of humor and she enjoys every moment she spends with them, "They’re a hoot because you never know what they’re going to say. They come up with some of the craziest things."

That energy and excitement about her kids and their education is something her students can feel.

Deja McGhee reads from her Golden Apple nomination letter, "We love her and she cares for us and she won’t stop trying to help us get everything she teaches."

Deja McGhee says the class learns to connect everything Ms. McKnight teaches to the world around them.

Ms. McKnight also had these students in the 2nd grade.

Deja says that close relationship makes it easier to learn, "I get all A’s on my report card all the time, even on progress reports."

McKnight says watching her students grow for the past two years has been a joy, "You celebrate the little moments when the kids just really, the light goes on and they’re just so excited…"

She’s been in the classroom for more than 20 years.

McKnight loves helping her students understand… but says the real excitement is when they learn together, "That’s the joy of teaching and you go home and think ‘Yes, I have maybe made a difference in some child’s life."
