Red Hot June Has Lookouts Daniel Palka Sitting Atop Southern League Homerun Standings
Chattanooga-(WDEF) The Lookouts Daniel Palka is the hottest homerun hitter in the minor leagues with nineteen homers this season.
If he maintains his current pace, Palka will break some records, and likely lead Chattanooga to another division title.
Daniel Palka is putting the Lookout in Lookouts this season because when he steps to the plate….look out.
Said Lookouts hitting coach Tommy Watkins-“Just looking at him, he looks like everybody else. He doesn’t look like he has the power that he does, but when he hits it, it’s a different sound.”
Palka has a Southern League leading 19 homeruns this season with twelve dingers coming in the month of June.
Said Palka-“I guess just settling in after the first two months. Felt like I was really comfortable at the plate after those first two months of playing.”
If Palka keeps it up, he could break the Lookouts single season homerun record, which was set just last year by Adam Brett Walker with 31.
Said Palka-“I’m not really thinking about that too much. That would be really cool to do. But at the same time, I’ve got a lot of other goals.”
Added Watkins-“He has about 12 more to go. I definitely think he can do it. I think teams as he starts getting up there in homeruns, they’re going to start pitching around him a little bit. That should be an advantage to him though.”
Palka’s power has helped Chattanooga go 16-8 in the month of June.
Said Watkins-“When we went on our streak of winning, he was in the middle of it. I think he hit about five homeruns in a series or two. He had like three multi-homerun games. During that time, we were winning ballgames. It is definitely good to have a guy like that on your team. For him to get hot, it helps a lot.”
If Palka stays comfortable at the plate, it could be a fun summer for Chattanooga.
Said Watkins-“Like I say, his power is amazing. It has been fun to watch this season.”
