Remembering Garry Mac, Former News 12 Anchor

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Garry Mac was a renaissance man of sorts in a long Chattanooga career.

The former newsman, radio personality and businessman passed away on Tuesday at the age of 67.

Garry grew up on local radio stations in the 1960’s, seventies and eighties.

In the 1990’s, he moved over to television to become the evening news anchor here at News 12.

His lifelong friend Kevin Billingsley said Garry was full of love and life, and was a true friend of many.

“It was rare to get the two of us alone. The only way we could do that was to go and hide somewhere,” Kevin said. “Because, if you’re in Chattanooga, and Garry was in town, it always became a group. It didn’t matter if you started with two, you were gonna end up with more than two people wherever you went.”

In recent years, Garry moved to Florida but still regularly came home to Chattanooga to visit with friends.
