Rep. Diane Black announces her run for Tennessee Governor

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – U. S. Representative Diane Black made it public Wednesday morning that she is running for Governor of Tennessee.

The 66 year old Republican from Nashville has served three terms in Congress, where she is currently chair of the House Budget Committee.

Before Congress, she served in the Tennessee legislature.

She launched her campaign in a YouTube video released this morning.

In the video, she paints herself as a fighter.

“I am Diane Black and I don’t back down.”

Black won’t be the only female candidate in the race.

So far House Speaker Beth Harwell and State Senator Mae Beavers are in.

Other Republican candidates are Randy Boyd and Businessman Bill Lee.

Former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean is the only announced Democrat in the race so far.

Governor Bill Haslam cannot run for a third term in 2018.
