UPDATE: Emergency personnel rescues high fall victim

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Rescue efforts are still underway at the Pocket Wilderness on Mowbray Mountain.

Hamilton County Emergency Services PIO Amy Makwell states “At 3:30 pm, a 9-1-1 was made reporting a male party had fallen 50-75 feet at Hog Skin Branch on the Cumberland Trails.”

Although details are limited, rescue personnel and HCEMS have made it to the injured male patient.

They have stabilized him in a stokes stretcher. A rope system to stabilize the patient and provide safety for rescue personnel.

Fire officials report they will carry the patient approximately 75 feet out of the woods and transport him onto a 6-wheeler which will then carry him to the ambulance. The male party has suffered a broken leg and a head injury, according to fire officials.

At 4:50 pm, rescue personnel started to carry the injured party out of the woods.

At 4:45 pm, fire officials reported the patient was being loaded onto the 6-wheeler to meet up with the ambulance. There the victim will be transported to Erlanger.

Many different rescue personnel assisted with this rescue effort. These include Mowbray VFD, Dallas Bay VFD, Sequoyah VFD, HCEMS, and Hamilton County Office of EMA.


CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) –  Hamilton County emergency personnel are responding to a high fall victim on Mowbray Mountain.

Hamilton County Emergency Services says that there are rescue operations underway for an injured male at Hog Skin Branch on the Cumberland Trail.

The HCSO is temporarily closing Montlake Road due to numerous emergency vehicles blocking the road. The closing will start at beginning at the 300 block near the entrance to the Blue Hole through to the top of the mountain.

The Sheriff’s Office says that motorists should avoid this area at this time so that emergency crews may appropriately respond.

It is unclear at this time when the road will be reopened.
