Rick Barnes Expects Big Dance Trips to Continue at Tennessee

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee coach Rick Barnes doesn’t see why his habit of making the NCAA Tournament every year should change now that he’s at a new school.
Barnes, whose teams have earned NCAA bids 19 of the last 20 seasons, took over Tennessee’s program three weeks ago after getting fired at Texas. While speaking to a crowd of supporters Wednesday at a Big Orange Tip Off Club luncheon, Barnes set a goal of making the tournament as early as next season.
Tennessee is coming off a 16-16 season, doesn’t return any scholarship point guards and has reached the NCAA Tournament just one of the last four years.
Barnes replaces Donnie Tyndall, who was fired after Tennessee officials determined the NCAA would likely determine he committed major violations while coaching Southern Mississippi.
