Ridgeland Pounding Opposition With Wing T Rushing Attack
Rossville, GA-(WDEF) Ridgeland battles Northwest Whitfield in a key region showdown on Friday night.
Look for the 4-0 Panthers to unleash their Wing T rushing attack.
Last year, Ridgeland averaged over 300-yards rushing a game, and they haven’t slowed down this season either.
Reporter:”Is it just a mindset with that Wing T that we are just going to keep pounding it at guys?”
Said running back Markeith Montgomery:”Yes sir. No doubt. It’s pound the game. pound the game.”
Pound the game. Pound the game.
That’s the sound of the game for the Ridgeland rushing attack.”
Said head coach Wesley Tankersley:”You have to want to be physical. You just have to make that a priority for you and your team. Make it fun for the kids. Almost like a badge of honor.”
Reporter:”Why is it so hard to stop your running attack?”
Said Tankersley:”Well when you have a lot of different options. I mean we’ve got two running backs back there that are committed to Division One schools, and then we have some other guys as well that could start probably at any place or any school in the area too.”
Said Montgomery:”We’re like six or seven running backs deep. It helps us. When I get tired, I tap on my helmet, and we’ve got somebody in that knows what to do and that’s good too, so it works out.”
Reporter:”So do you think there have been about six guys that have carried the football for you guys this year?”
Said Montgomery:”Six or seven running backs that has carried the ball well.”
Reporter:”What’s the craziest defense you have seen thrown at you guys to try to slow y’all down?”
Said running back Jalyn Shelton:”They had nine in the box. Just trusted their corners to work. We still ran it. We didn’t get stopped like 100 percent.”
Reporter:”Why is it in football it seems like the team that rushes for the most yards, especially if it’s 300 to 400 yards, their record is outstanding. Why is it so hard beat teams when they can run the ball like that?”
Said Tankersley:”Well I think it’s generally because they win the time of possession as well. They’re able to keep the ball away from the other team and also keep their defense fresh and keep them off the field as much as possible too. So through out the game, they don’t get as tired either.”
