Ringgold plumber accused of cleaning out more than pipes

RINGGOLD, Georgia(WDEF) – A convicted child molester stands accused of using his business as a way to steal valuables from people’s homes.

Benjamin Guest, 37 was charged with theft after Catoosa County deputies linked him to stolen jewelry that came from two homes he serviced as a plumber. Authorities believed Guest used his plumbing business to get into two homes to steal thousands of dollars worth of high-end jewelry.

"It was definitely a theft of opportunity. He was able to be in the homes because of the business; don’t exactly know why he was committing the thefts," Catoosa County Sheriff Gary Sisk.

According to the arrest report, $18,000 worth of jewelry was taken from a home on Fay Circle. Thousands of dollars more worth of jewelry was taken from another home on The Point Drive. Authorities returned those items to the home owners who hired Guest.

"We’ve also got some more jewelry that this person had taken to a metal recycler that we feel belongs to some other victims that either haven’t reported the crime or maybe they did report a crime and it’s just not showing up when we’ve shared this information with local law enforcement surrounding our area," Sisk said.

Guest is no stranger to trouble. He’s a well known sex offender who was convicted on two counts of child molestation.

"I saw that on the Georgia Sex Offender Registry and I’d be wondering if any of these homes had children in them," said Ringgold resident Jeff Holcomb.

"To my knowledge right now, there were no children in the homes of wither of these victims,"Sisk said.

Since Guest is out of jail on bond, WDEF went to his house to see if he would do an interview. But no one answered the door.

Authorities are actively trying to return other pieces of jewelry that appears to have come from other homes.
