Rising Country Star Larry Fleet to Play Chattanooga Show

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Country music artist Larry Fleet is on his first-ever headline tour, stopping in his hometown of Chattanooga this weekend.

News 12 caught up with Larry at CMA Fest to talk about how he got his start in the music industry.

The rising country music star may spend a lot of time out on the road playing shows, but he’s been calling Chattanooga home for about eight years.

“Drive over here [to Nashville], get on the bus and go where we’re going to go, and write a day or two a week, something like that,” Fleet said.

Even though music is Fleet’s passion, it wasn’t always how he made a living.

He worked construction, and would play on the weekends. He happened to meet Jake Owen at one of those performances in 2017.

“We get to talking, and he liked what I was doing, and talked me into quitting my job, long story short, and was like, ‘Hey, let’s, you know, quit your job. Let’s go. So I did, and it worked out,” Fleet said. “He just kind of helped me out, took me under his wing a little bit, and got me going.”

It didn’t take long before Fleet was sharing the stage with Owen, Jon Pardi, Darius Rucker, and even country music legend Willie Nelson, all while collaborating with some of Nashville’s top songwriters.

He says he was always more of a songwriter before he became a performer.

“Songwriter was what I was wanting to do, and I did that for a while,” he said. “I love it. I love songwriting. It’s one of my favorite things to do, but I love going and playing too, seeing all the people and traveling around. But I guess my heart’s more into writing songs, and hey, I get to stay home a little more, you know? But it just panned out that way. It’s for me to sing them and write them.”

And that’s exactly what he’s been doing while out on tour.

Larry more recently supported Morgan Wallen’s sold-out Dangerous Tour this year.

“It’s just 20,000 people piled in every single night,” Fleet said. “It’s really cool, and you make a lot of fans that, you know, people didn’t know who I was. They know now from me being out there on that [tour], and hanging out with Morgan and HARDY.”

Now Larry’s out on his own for his first headline tour.

One of the stops on the One For The Road Tour is at the Signal in Chattanooga, which is already sold out.

We can expect to hear some of the songs he co-wrote on his most recent album, Stack of Records.

“We’ll have a good time,” Fleet said. “A little rowdy show, I’m sure.”

Country music artist Nate Smith will be opening for Larry’s Chattanooga show on Saturday.

If you weren’t able to get tickets, Larry will be doing another show in Bristol, Tennessee on November 4.

One of Larry’s songs, “Best That I Got” will also be featured in CBS’ new series, FIRE COUNTRY, on Friday at 9 p.m. ET right here on News 12.

You can also stream it on Paramount+.
