Rivals clash at Georgia gubernatorial debate
ATLANTA (WDEF)- Those looking to replace Georgia Governor Brian Kemp made their cases Monday afternoon in a pair of debates.
Both Republican and Democratic candidates made their cases this afternoon in Atlanta.
Democrats such as former Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and Representative Jason Esteves among others are trying to be the first Democrat to hold that seat since Roy Barnes held the seat from 19-99 to 20-03.
Meanwhile on the Republican side, Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones and Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger are facing an outsider challenge from businessman Rick Jackson, as in particular the battle between Jones and Jackson has heated up.
Jackson said to Jones, “I don’t think you should have the ability to raise money during session while you’re trying to pass bills.”
Jones responded, “So I’m glad they took a playbook from Stacy Abrams… While he spends $100 million trying to buy the governor seat is really comical.”
Election Day for all state contests is May 19th, with any needed runoffs on June 16th.
