Robert Hubbs Glad He Stayed With Vols Basketball Team
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Robert Hubbs III believes he made the right decision to remain at Tennessee after a tumultuous freshman year that featured a season-ending shoulder injury and the departure of his coach and two close friends.
Now he wants to live up to the acclaim that came with the former five-star recruit’s arrival on campus.
Hubbs decided to stay after speaking to new coach Donnie Tyndall, who took over the program when California hired away Cuonzo Martin. Martin’s exit was followed by the transfers of A.J. Davis and Darius Thompson, two of Hubbs’ best friends.
Hubbs says Tyndall "wants me to be the most improved player in the SEC, which I think I can do." Hubbs played just 12 games as a freshman before surgery.
