Rocky Times on Rocky Top as Vols Pull Coaching Offer From Greg Schiano
It’s rocky times on Rocky Top with the Tennessee coaching job..
Vols AD John Currie was set to hire Ohio State defensive coordinator Greg Schiano as UT’s new head coach on Sunday. Then came the backlash on social media.
Lot of talk about Schiano’s tenure at Penn State and the child rape scandal.
And then there was Schiano’s record.
68-67 as the head coach at Rutgers and 11-21 as the head coach at Tampa Bay.
All of the backlash eventually turned into a protest at Neyland Stadium.
Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer, who hired Schiano on his staff, was asked about the UT fiasco.
Said Meyer:”I’m not angry. I will make this comment that I will apologize that I’ve said many, many times. He’s an elite person, elite father, elite husband, elite friend, and elite football coach.”
John Currie issued a statement today saying that he has known Schiano over the years.
He added that Tennessee did vet Schiano in regards to the child rape scandal at Penn State, adding that Schiano was never mentioned in the Freeh investigation report.
Now there are reports in Knoxville that boosters want Currie out as the school’s athletic director following the Schiano fiasco.
