Run Mama Run

CHATTANOOGA, Tennessee (WDEF) – It’s Mother’s Day weekend and for the third time, a local fitness organization has combined running with pampering.

It’s Mother’s Day weekend and Fit4Mom hosted its third annual run mama run 5 and 10k.

“We really try to build community in motherhood as well as strengthen motherhood. That’s where these kind of marry, building strength through running and community through a fun event which encourages moms to bring their families and enjoy each other,” said Fit4Mom Owner Rachel McClellan.

At first thought some people might not think working out and running is something meant for mother day but, some of the moms think it’s a perfect fit.

“Well, we believe exercise and self-care and also pampering and self-care. So we just kind of thought let’s marry them and take care of our moms by helping them take care of their selves too,” said McClellan.

“I’m definitely an extrovert and coming out and being with my workout friends that I recharge and socialize with other moms,” said mom Elizabeth Durbin.

“I just moved here a month ago from Charlotte and this has been one of the main ways I’ve met people. Everyone has been super welcoming and supportive. So to be around other moms and women who are supportive of each other and the community it’s just really important to me. I’m really excited I have been able to find these women in this place,” said mom Lauren Guy.

Fit4Mom wanted the event to be a full service for moms so besides running there were massage therapy and support networks.

“Momentum network is an organization that comes alongside single moms and helps them connect and get direction and complete college so they can build a better future two generations at a time. We’re so grateful for the opportunity to have the ability to share the word with moms about how to get involved in addition to getting some support from these amazing moms,” said Momentum Network Karen Hicks.
