Salvation Army, Food City to aid Homeless Camps

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Salvation Army Chattanooga Area Command 614 is partnering with Food City to host a food drive lasting from January 23rd to January 27th as part of their Life Navigation Ministry.

Starting on Monday the 23rd, donation bins will be placed in participating Food City locations. The food and supplies gathered will stock a mobile truck used by the Salvation Army to deliver supplies and aid to homeless camps around Chattanooga.

The mission is partly spearheaded by the Outreach Specialist, Joecelyn Simpson. She is hopeful to receive more supplies and extend more help to local homeless populations.

“Food is the number one asked for item when I go out to the encampments,” Simpson said. “So hopefully we can get the items that we need, and that people are asking for.”

The Salvation Army has a list of the most needed non-perishable food items: Canned Tuna, Trail Mix, Fruit Cups, Applesauce, Granola Bars, Slim Jims, & Beef Jerky.
