Salvation Army Hosts Community Brunch

Over 300 people were served breakfast and backpacks filled with necessities

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – More than 300 people experiencing homelessness or financial hardships were served brunch this morning at the Salvation Army.

Local volunteers helped spread the joy of Christmas by distributing backpacks filled with essentials such as hats, scarves, and hygiene products to those in need.

The event started at 10 a.m. this morning and ended around noon.

Community members lined up outside the doors of the McCallie Salvation Army, waiting to be let in.

News 12 spoke with Captain James Sullivan about the event. “We want to be able to give the people not a hand out but a hand up,” he said, “we want to make a difference in the lives of our neighbors as much as we can.”

Each backpack contains a variety of necessities donated by local community members.

The event was fully staffed by Salvation Army personnel in addition to local volunteers.
