Salvation Army to open Warming Shelter this weekend

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) It’s hard to believe with such warm weather this week, but the Salvation Army plans to open its Warming Shelter this weekend.

Officials say they’re doing it because temperatures are expected to drop below freezing.

The doors will open from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday nights for homeless people needing overnight shelter.

The ReCreate Cafe’ is preparing to serve food.

Salvation Army officials say they need volunteers to help.

If you want to volunteer, call Captain Aaron Goldfarb at 423-432-1584 to register.

Chattanooga Salvation Army Area Commander Major Al Newsome says, "We want to keep people safe and protected from below freezing temperatures."

Officials say they could also use monetary donations to help people with high utility bills.
