Schools offer more info on migrant children in Chattanooga
CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – Hamilton County school officials have offered more information on what they have learned about a faith-based group housing kids from the border at the shelter in Chattanooga.
Members of the Baptiste Group briefed school leaders on Tuesday.
Terrance Ware of the Baptiste Group said they are working with migrant children here at a shelter under the name of Sidney’s Place.
It is a short-term placement for the children on the road to reuniting the families.
The Group plans to educate any children in their care through online learning, meaning they will NOT attend Hamilton County Schools.
That issue caused the sharp words exchanged at the school board meeting this week.
Immigration lawyers tell us that this practice of moving kids around the country has been going on for several years and they don’t often stay in one place for too long.
