UPDATE: Arrest made after shots fired on East 3rd Street overnight

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – The Chattanooga Police Department has released updated information on the shots fired incident from overnight on East 3rd Street.

Police say officers attempted a traffic stop on the suspect’s vehicle, but the driver did not stop.

According to Chattanooga Police, the driver drove directly at officers prompting the officers to fire on the suspect vehicle because of “the immediate life-threatening harm they were facing.”

Officials say one officer was struck by the vehicle, but not seriously injured.

Chattanooga Police say officers pursued the vehicle as it fled the scene.

Chattanooga Police were aided by other agencies and were able to locate the vehicle and suspect.

The suspect has been identified by police as Lawande Haggard who now faces charges of Aggravated Assault on Police, Felony Reckless Endangerment, Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony.

Chattanooga, TN (WDEF) – In the early morning hours of Sunday, Chattanooga Police responded to the 1300 block of East 3rd Street concerning a large gathering of people in the parking lot of the Speedway gas station & convenience store.

In the process of police dispersing the crowd, shots were fired in the area. While investigating, officers discharged their weapons.

No one was struck by the shots fired.

Officers were able to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle and detained persons of interest.
