Silverdale Marches on Despite Losing Key Player
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) Silverdale posted a solid 9-3 record last year, which was their first winning season since 20-16. The Seahawks want to keep that winning vibe going this fall, despite losing a key player.
Seahawks coach Mike Connor must plug a big hole in his offense with the graduation of running back Conner Delashmitt, who set all sorts of school records.
Said Connor:”Right now we are trying to find that next guy. Probably going to have to run the ball by committee until that guy starts shining. Not only did we lose Conner, but we lost two key receivers.”
It won’t be a total loss on offense though. Quarterback Brett Rogers returns.
Connor:”His focus right now is on how he can raise the level of the guys around him. Everybody knows about Brett. Last year they didn’t know about Brett. Everybody knows about Brett now, so he has got to raise the level of the guys around him.”
Said lineman Kyle Shoemaker:”Well we’ve got our whole starting offensive line coming back. That’s always good for us. Brett Rogers our quarterback. He’s amazing.”
And the Seahawks want more tempo in their up-tempo offense.
Said Connor:”We try to run the ball or run a play as fast as we can. Feel like that gives us an edge through four quarters. Makes the game longer for the defense.”
Reporter:”What has you excited about the team?”
Said Connor:”I tell you the thing that excites me the most is our leadership on our team. These guys. The guys in particular who are leading now have been playing on Friday nights since their sophomore year.”
Of course there’s the leadership of Coach Connor, who has the wisdom of Forrest Gump’s mother. Momma always says. Said Shoemaker:”Coach always says the team that responds best when it matters most is the team that’s going to win.”
