Small earthquake in East Tennessee Monday morning

ETOWAH, Tennessee (WDEF) – The earth did move early this morning in East Tennessee.

Around 4 AM, there was a 2.4 magnitude earth quake in the region.

The epicenter was in Etowah in McMinn County.

Anything under a 3.5 quake isn’t likely to wake you out of your sleep.

These low level tremors are more common in our area than you might think.

We had a 2.5 last week in Sweetwater.

East Tennessee has seen five earthquakes in the last month (including a 2.5 centered in Benton) and 47 so far this year.
