Soddy Daisy man charged with sexual exploitation of children; bond set at $275,000
SODDY DAISY, Tennessee (WDEF) — A Soddy Daisy man is in serious trouble after explicit nude images of minors was discovered on his cell phone.
The woman who discovered the images told News 12 it appears there are multiple child victims.
“The biggest thing was the police coming back and forth and back and forth. They went under the trailer and in the back of the trailer. They were in and out of it. We just couldn’t figure out what in the world was going on,” said Terry Smith.
Smith was describing the intense police presence at his neighbor’s trailer in Soddy Daisy. They were there to investigate 36-year old Joshua Johnson. Johnson was just arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of children.
“As many kids that goes over there and play; we don’t have kids here but the kids in the neighborhood play over there. Wow. I never really thought it,” Smith said.
A parent of one of the victims discovered the images on Johnson’s phone then called police. She says it appears there were explicit images of multiple children. She agreed to talk to News 12 as long as she was not identified.
“There were mostly videos but there were not many photos of the minors, mostly videos of the minors,” she said.
The parent News 12 spoke to said she can’t believe the images she discovered.
“It’s just completely devastating. I don’t know, you watch shows like Law and Order and movies like this and then it happens to you and it’s just completely surreal,” she said.
The experience was so surreal that she knows she can’t handle the thought of what happened on her own.
“I’ll be pursuing counseling as well as the others involved,” she said.
News 12 has learned that more charges against Johnson are pending.
There is also a chance federal authorities will get involved in the investigation.
Johnson remains in jail on a $275.000 bond.
