Soddy-Daisy Police remind residents not to stop on highway to watch fire fighting efforts

SODDY-DAISY, Tenn. (WDEF) — Acting Soddy-Daisy Police Chief Jeff Gann is asking residents again to not stop on the shoulder of Highway 27 to watch the helicopter pick up water from Soddy Lake to fight the wildfires.

Officials say it is illegal to stop, park, and stand on the shoulder of a highway in Tennessee unless it is an emergency.

Acting Police Chief Jeff Gann says that motorists stopping on the side of the road forces the pilot to fly away from that area for safety reasons, hindering the firefighting efforts.
