Sons of Confederate Veterans file suit to stop Waycross monument removal

WAYCROSS, Georgia (WDEF) – The Georgia Division of Sons of Confederate Veterans has filed a lawsuit about the city of Waycross.

They have also named the three commissioners who voted to move a Confederate monument.

Last month, the Waycross Commission voted to remove the monument topped by a Confederate soldier commemorating soldiers who had lost their lives in the Civil War.

It was originally erected in 1910 in Phoenix Park by the group Confederate Veterans of Ware County and the city of Waycross.

The lawsuit is asking for a temporary restraining order against moving the monument.

“Apparently pandering to the “cancel culture” mob was more important than obeying Georgia law.”
