South Pittsburg names Jasper officer as new chief of police

SOUTH PITTSBURG, Tennessee (WDEF) – The South Pittsburg city commission hires a new chief of police who will get to handle multiple investigations into the department.

They unanimously voted for Wayne Jordan from the Jasper Police Department.

He will take over a department facing separate brutality and sexual assault investigations.

Three weeks ago an officer was accused of kicking a suspect who was already in cuffs.

The TBI is investigating.

And this week, a part time officer was accused by a father of sexually assaulting his daughter.

The D.A.’s office and the TBI are looking into that.

Jordan will take over for interim chief Lt. Brenda Roth, who was appointed after the last chief was demoted in early October.

The Marion County News reports that the city has had four police chiefs in just three years.
