Spring City eclipse festivities get underway

SPRING CITY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The total solar eclipse is less than 24 hours away from coming through our area.

This rare occurrence is bringing in people from all over and at one place the eclipse has become a weekend long celebration.

Spring City Tennessee is expecting a crowd of people in town for the eclipse on Monday.

The city will see one of the longest totalities in our coverage area.

All weekend long they’ve been holding a festival to get folks pumped.

They’re having activities and vendors selling eclipse souvenirs – from shirts that change color reading “I survived the path of totality” to jewelry and magnets that say “I got eclipsed in Spring City”.

Charlene Tipton says she’s sold a lot of the eclipse jewelry, magnets and Christmas ornaments, key chains, and buttons to people in town visiting.

She says she’s happy to have so many travelers staying in Spring City.

“It’s very exciting to see everybody in spring city and viewing our little town. we have a lot to offer there’s a lot of lake access and lake activities of course we have this big beautiful park here for children to play that’s normally not this crowded and you can ride bikes we have the nature park over there that children can ride bikes and play on the play equipment and just really a beautiful little town to come to,” Tipton says.

The festival continues all day Monday.
