Students show off robots ahead of competition

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) – Hundreds of students from Hamilton and Walker Counties came together today to participate in the third annual EPB Robo Expo.

Students of all ages designed and programmed robots that perform different tasks.

They showed them off today, highlighting the design process, features, and adjustments they make to the machines to get them to function properly.

Students as young as 6 designed bots, including using Lego’s and Lego programming software.

Tennessee Valley Robotics is one of the largest sponsors of the expo and treasurer Charles Spencer believes the STEM skills learned here will jump start the students to a brighter future.

“These students will be the leaders in technology in the future in Hamilton county. they will have the jobs at Volkswagen, UNUM, Blue Cross, TVA, and the Electric Power Board. These students are absolutely the leaders of tomorrow,” said Spencer.

The students will compete next month in several events expected to draw hundreds of spectators.

They will be judged on their robot’s ability to complete tasks as well as the students abilities to problem solve and present to an audience.
