Suspect Identified in Grundy Co. Officer-Involved Shooting

GRUNDY COUNTY, Tenn. (WDEF) — The Grundy County Sheriff’s Office has identified the suspect in an officer-involved shooting over the weekend.

Sheriff Clint Shrum tells News 12 the suspect is 32-year-old Jackie Bean of Franklin County.

The incident happened around 10:30 p.m. CT, Saturday, after deputies tried to stop a car on B Mine Road in the Coalmont area.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation says the driver reportedly pointed a firearm at the deputy, who then fired into the vehicle several times.

They say that driver sideswiped the deputy’s cruiser.

Deputies then tried to pursue the suspect’s car, but lost him.

The deputy was not hurt.

The suspect later crashed on B Mine Road, and is now in custody.

The body of 20-year-old Shelby Comer was found inside the suspect’s car, and has been sent to Nashville for an autopsy.

The TBI is investigating the shooting.
