TBI details missing children crackdown in East Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) –  The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has been focusing on missing children in the state over the last couple of months.

They say the effort has brought home 150 missing kids across Tennessee.

They targeted 240 missing children cases statewide, analyzed leads for each and then designated law enforcement teams to focus on them in two week blitzes.

The East Tennessee blitz hit on January 4-15.

They tackled 86 missing children cases and found 56 of them.

Five of those were in other states.

3 of the 56 juveniles were involved in potential human trafficking.

The investigation into those networks continues.

“Many people don’t realize this, but hundreds of children go missing in our state every month,” said TBI Director David Rausch.

“From runaways that may leave their home out of desperation or despair, to those entangled in a custody battle, every single one of them deserves a fighting chance, and that’s why they also deserve our best work to help them.”
