TDOT battling sinkhole on Highway 111

SODDY-DAISY, Tennessee (WDEF) – TDOT has a plan for dealing with a sinkhole going up Walden’s Ridge.

Now they just need some clear weather to put it into action.

It started on the shoulder of Highway 111 at one of the runaway truck ramps.

The trickle of debris during the day turned into a gaping hole by nightfall.

That’s when a TDOT geologist devised a repair plan.

But it will require some drier weather.

In the meantime, the right hand lane coming down hill is closed.

TDOT crews have now filled the hole with large rocks to stabilize it.

And they have put in water dams to divert new rainfall.

They hope to put in barrier rail on Friday and begin digging out the sinkhole.

The plan is to fill in the area with new material and then repave.

TDOT doesn’t know how long the process will take.
