TECH BYTE: New Google Feature Lets You Customize Your Ads
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — Google says it wants to help you take control over some of the ads you see on its sites and apps.
Follow the brands you love, and stay away from those you don’t.
That’s what Google’s new tool, “My Ad Center,” is for.
Google says it’s putting you in more control over the ads you see across Google on Search, YouTube, and Discover, while still having privacy online.
If there’s an ad about a particular topic that you’d like to just go away, make it disappear from your screen by clicking the minus icon. That way you’ll see fewer ads like it.
Click the plus icon to see more content from a brand you do like.
For example, this new feature definitely comes in handy after getting back from a recent beach trip.
If you spent a lot of time researching the beach, condos, or flights, you probably don’t want to see ads on those topics for a while after you get back from your vacation.
On “My Ad Center,” you can also limit how many ads you see in certain more sensitive categories like weight loss, alcohol, or dating.
You can even turn off personalized ads altogether.
To do that, just click on the toggle in the upper right-hand corner of your screen.
To take advantage of this new tool, just go to myadcenter.google.com to get started.
Google says it follows some core privacy principles on what information it does and doesn’t collect.
The company also says it doesn’t sell your personal information, and won’t use your content on Gmail, Photos, and Drive for ads.
