Teenage girl dies after rescue from river in east Georgia
WHITESBURG, Ga. (AP) – Authorities say a 14-year-old girl has died after she and her sister were pulled from the Chattahoochee River in east Georgia.
Carroll County Emergency Management Agency spokesman Tim Padgett tells multiple news outlets that the teenager and her six-year-old sister were found in the McIntosh River Park on Friday. Padgett says the sisters were rescued after their swim noodle got away from them.
The sisters were camping with their family at the park.
Carroll County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Jeff Richards says the younger sister remains in intensive care at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta of Egleston. Officials say the oldest sister was pronounced after she was taken to Tanner Medical Center in Carrollton.
