Tennessee pedal bar company sues competitor over use of term

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee “bicycle bar” company Nashville Pedal Tavern says in a lawsuit that a term it coined is being illegally used by a competing company.

Local reports that in a lawsuit filed Thursday, Nashville Pedal Tavern LLC claims Sprocket Tours is also calling its business a “pedal tavern.”

The lawsuit says slow moving, people toting bars are officially known as four-wheeled party bicycles. Nashville Pedal Tavern trademarked the phrase “pedal tavern” and “Nashville Pedal Tavern,” and says no other company should be able to promote similar services with those terms.

It claims Sprocket Tours advertises their company as “Nashville’s #1 Party Bike Pedal Tavern,” and that Nashville Pedal Tavern has been trying to get Sprocket Tours to stop using the term since 2014.

Sprocket Tours didn’t return The Tennessean’s requests for comment.
