Tennessee sheriff’s deputy injured during traffic stop

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) – A Tennessee sheriff’s deputy has been hospitalized after being struck by a car at a traffic stop.

Shelby County Sheriff’s spokesman Earle Farrell says in a statement to media outlets that Deputy Angela Winfrey was assisting a driver on state Route 14 Saturday night when she was struck by another vehicle whose driver apparently didn’t see her.

Winfrey was later flown to Memphis Regional Center in Memphis and was in stable condition with injuries that weren’t life threatening.

Farrell says the driver of the other car stopped and remained at the scene. No charges are planned.
