Tennessee Valley represented at 2017 Mr. Football Awards

NASHVILLE (WDEF) — Four high school football players from the Chattanooga area were honored as Tennessee Titans Mr. Football finalists at Nissan Stadium.

Two of the three finalists for Division I Class 2A come from the Tennessee Valley. Even after outstanding seasons, both Marion County’s Jacob Saylors and Meigs County’s Aaron Swafford left Nissan Stadium with just a finalist plaque.

“I’m just very blessed to be here and bring my family up here,” Saylors said.

“I’m thankful for my teammates being able to get me here,” Swafford added. “It’s a team season and hopefully in the next two years I can come home with a Mr. Football trophy.”

Notre Dame quarterback Cameron Wynn also comes back to Chattanooga with a finalist plaque. Eric Gray, running back from Lausanne Collegiate, won Mr. Football for the Division II Class AA distinction. But the Fighting Irish already plan on evening the score on Saturday when they play the Lynx for the state title.

“I talked to the team. They were watching. They said it’s okay, we’ll try to get it back, because they know we got to play against them so they said you didn’t get it so we’ll try to get that ring for you,” Wynn said.

But Bledsoe County’s Gabe Boring is going home with a giants trophy, personalized Titans jersey and an experience he’ll never forget.

“It means a lot to me,” Boring said. “I want to thank God for giving me this opportunity to get this award because without him this wouldn’t have been possible.”

Boring is not only Bledsoe County’s first ever winner of a Mr. Football award, he’s also the first ever finalist from the school.
