Texas man wanted for Charleston grocery store burglary
Charleston, TN (WDEF) – The Bradley County Sheriff Office identified the suspect in the January 25th burglary of the Piggly Wiggly in Charleston.
There are warrants out for the arrest of 29-year-old Christopher Lee Chambers from Texas.
Officials say forensic evidence linked Chambers to the burglary.
Law enforcement found a large hole in the roof of the grocery store and a heavy safe missing.
The safe was later found in the back of a pickup truck stolen from an Athens dealership.
The safe was cut open and emptied.
Detectives found a string of similar crimes stretching from Texas to Tennessee.
Captain of Investigations, Steve Lawson said, “This case is very indicative of our folks taking the evidence collected from this scene and making the most of it. The BCSO deputies, Charleston Police officers, detectives, and our forensics investigators made this case by taking their time and looking at the totality of the evidence. I appreciate everyone’s efforts and the excellent work exhibited in this case to identify a suspect. Our investigators continue working with agencies in Texas and Louisiana in an attempt to identify others involved in the burglary as well as to apprehend Chambers.”
Chambers faces charges of Burglary and Theft over $10,000 in Bradley County and more in other places.
