The Search for a Chattanooga Police Chief Comes to an End

CHATTANOOGA, TN (WDEF) – The search for a new Chattanooga police chief is coming to an end.

Friday is the last day the city is accepting applications.

He says, "We need a police chief who can be a great leader and inspire our law enforcement officers while communicating with members of the public and hearing what they need."

Bobby Dodd stepped down on December 31st to pursue other opportunities outside the public sector.

So far, about 45 people have applied.

After the application deadline, Chattanooga Mayor Andy Berke says a search committee will narrow down the list to about five candidates.

Then, Mayor Berke says he’ll interview those candidates and hand pick one to present to the city council.

The search has been going on since December.

That’s when Bobby Dodd retired.

Mayor Berke explains what qualities he’s like to see in a police chief.
