Ties Part of the Game for the CFC
Chattanooga-(WDEF-TV) The Chattahooligans love to chant the city’s 4-2-3 area code at CFC games. Ironically, Chattanooga’s record looks like an area code. 3-0-3.
The CFC have three ties.
Kind of strange in the soccer regular season that you settle for so many ties.
Sometimes soccer cheats when it comes to the goal in the sports, summed up best by Herm Edwards now famous rant.
Said former New York Jets coach Herm Edwards:”Hello! You play to win the game! You don’t play to just play it. That’s the great thing about sports. You play to win.”
But what happens when you tie? What does that feel like?
Said CFC goalie Philip D’Amico:”Yeah it’s like you are on the edge of your seat like it’s a good movie, and then it just ends. It’s like come on. Come on. Yeah.”
Reporter:”Is it hard looking at the scoreboard though after 90 or 92 minutes or whatever, and just seeing that nobody won?”
Said CFC forward Joao Costa:”It’s hard especially in the last game was hard. It was hard. We feel like we should have won the game.”
Reporter:”Do you congratulate your team ever after a tie?”
Said CFC head coach Bill Elliott:”Um. I haven’t so far this year.” (laughs)
D’Amico admits people are confused by ties.
Said D’Amico:”It’s funny because everyone is like how can you tie in soccer. There’s no winner. It’s boring, but that’s what makes it fun and unique.”
Said midfielder Juan Hernandez:”I was born in Spain where soccer is the main sport and everything is like that. You win, you tie, or you lose, and so I grew up with it. For me it’s natural. It’s second nature.”
Now teams do get a point for a tie, so that can add up in the league standings.
Said Elliott:”You know if you look at our game actually our home game where we played with ten men for a half, and we walked away with a tie that night. Now that felt. That felt okay.”
Reporter:”There’s a saying in the states that a tie is like kissing your sister. Does it feel like that at all?”
Said Hernandez:”I’ve never done it, so I don’t know.” (laughs)
