Titans Excited For Start of Training Camp
The Titans are coming off their first playoff berth in nine years.
No wonder the team feels optimistic about the new season as they kicked off training camp on Thursday.
The start of training camp brings energy and excitement, but the Titans season opener is still six weeks from Sunday.
Said center Ben Jones:”Everybody kind of knows what camp is all about, so it’s a mind set. Camp will get you if you don’t have the right mind set.”
Injuries will get you too. Rishard Matthews remains out with an undisclosed injury. He was the team’s second leading receiver last year.
Said head coach Mike Vrabel:”We’ll evaluate him. He’s in the process of continuing to be evaluated, and when Rishard is ready. I know he’s frustrated.”
But a good roster can ease any injury frustration.
Said linebacker Brian Orakpo:”You look at any past Super Bowl winning teams, who cares about who starts? We need depth. Talking from our position (linebacker) from my position, I look at the Philly team, and just watching those guys. They were nine guys deep and rollin’.
Rollin. Rollin. Rollin. That’s what Derrick Henry wants to do as the new boss man in the backfield, following the release of fellow running back DeMarco Murray.
Said Henry:”I definitely want to be dominant this year. Any opportunities that I get, take the advantage of them.”
Reporter:”A certain number of yards or a certain number of touchdowns?”
Said Henry:”No conditions. Just want to be a dominant back.”
While it’s hard to dominate in the NFL, at least the Titans have the swagger of a winning team.
Said Orakpo:”This is not a team that’s you know we’re just trying to make a name for ourselves. I feel like we established that. I feel like teams around the nation and around the league understand who we are and what we are all about.”
Said defensive back Kevin Byard:”It’s definitely a different vibe than there was you know the previous two years. The excitement. The energy surrounding this building. Not even just the building, but the entire city of Nashville is just excited for training camp.”
