Titans Getting Back in the OTA Groove
Last year the Titans weren’t allowed to conduct any OTA practice sessions because of the pandemic. Well they’re back on this summer, and the Titans hope the extra practice sessions will be beneficial for the upcoming season, especially for the newcomers.
Having the rookies available for OTA’s this year must seem like a luxury for head coach Mike Vrabel.
Said Vrabel:”We have been able to do some rookie walk-throughs and 7-on7’s that have allowed Caleb and some of those other players that haven’t been able to practice with us full time to go out there and see formations and see checks.”
Offensive lineman Taylor Lewan still isn’t on the field as he recovers from a knee injury.
Didn’t stop him from jumping in quickly on the media zoom session to compare his mustache with Filip Forsburg’s of the Predators.
Said Lewan:”I kind of have got that blonde fraze going on. It’s probably a little more like an old English 20’s, but Forsburg, his is a little thicker on the side. I kind of like his a little bit better. Fits his face better. I’m like a dog without a leash with this thing.”
Be nice to see the Titans defense run like a wild dog this season, given how much they struggled with sacks and third downs a year ago.
Said defensive back Kevin Byard:”Obviously with last year, I don’t think we weren’t aggressive enough. We weren’t playing. If it’s third down, we’ve just got to be more aggressive. That’s one thing I think that we can continue to try and improve on. Just at OTA’s being more aggressive and challenging guys no matter who is out there on the field.”
Said defensive back Amani Hooker:”Every year we want to improve. The goal isn’t to just win the AFC South. It’s to win the Super Bowl. Coaches are going to do what they’ve got to do to help us win and help this team improve.”
Quarterback Ryan Tannehill says the OTA’s are great for the offense because you can tinker around a bit.
Said Tannehill:”There’s a lot we can take in and learn during this time of the year. We don’t have a game where we’re trying to prepare for. We are able to try new things offensively. Quarterbacks are able to try different things.”
Once the Titans transition to training camp, the learning curve will jump quickly.
Reporter:”Yeah Mike. Bruce Arians said you guys were planning on having a joint training camp practices together. Is that something that’s official?”
Said Vrabel:”Buck you don’t believe Bruce when he says that?”
Reporter:”No I do. I just haven’t seen anything from you guys.”
Said Vrabel:”We are planning on working with them, and that’s a great opportunity for us to have the opportunity to go down there. Practice with the defending Super Bowl Champions.”
