Titans Not Concerned With Critics as Team Reports For Training Camp
The Titans reported for training camp on Friday.
They’ll have their first workout on Saturday.
Tennessee brought in new head coach Ken Whisenhunt during the off-season, and he’ll try to change the fortunes of a struggling franchise.
Ken Whisenhunt is about to conduct his first training camp with the Titans, but it seems he has already ushered in a new environment.
Said receiver Nate Washington,"I think Coach Whisenhunt has been around long enough to understand that you kind of have to let grown men be grown men. He allows us as players to coach ourselves in that locker room."
Reporter-"What do you want the personality of this football team to be?"
Said Whisenhunt,"Tough, smart, football team that can win games at the end or in tight situations when you need to."
Coach might want to mention healthy as well, especially when it comes to quarterback Jake Locker.
He missed nearly the last two months of the season last year with a foot injury.
Said Locker,"I felt great. Really, really good running today. Felt strong. Didn’t have any problems."
Reporter-"Are you tired of answering those (health) questions?"
Said Locker,"Yeah dude. It does feel good I promise you that."(Laughter)
The Titans had a losing record last year at 7-9, and they haven’t been to the playoffs since 2008.
Said Washington,"When your expectations are that low, it gives you an opportunity to go out and prove everybody wrong."
Said Locker,"We’re close. I mean you look at last season, and I’ve said it I don’t know how many times. We had four games we were winning in the fourth quarter. If you win two of them, you’re 9-7."
Said Washington,"I think a lot of the guys in this locker room are focused on us going out and showing each other something more than proving the critics wrong or going out and proving the critics right. I’m not worried too much about where they place us. A lot of them have no clue."
But the season will certainly give us the clues as to whether the Titans are indeed better.
Said Whisenhunt,"The chemistry with this group of men was something that was building on the positive side. But there’s so much yet that we have to determine. We have to go through adversity. That’s part of forging a team."
