Tornado hits Cumberland Co. school as it let out

CROSSVILLE, Tennessee (WDEF) – An EF-0 tornado has damaged an elementary school west of Crossville this afternoon on the Cumberland Plateau.

It hit Pleasant Hill Elementary just as the entire student body (K-8) was heading out to go home by bus or in their parents’ vehicles.

The tornado was doppler-warned, but the funnel cloud had not been spotted.

School officials say an alert SRO first noticed something was wrong and sent all the kids back into the school.

The tornado ripped a portion of the roof off of the school, but officials report only minor injuries.

Otherwise, there wasn’t much damage.

School has been cancelled across Cumberland County on Friday as a precaution.
