Traffic stop results in shots fired at officer
No one was injured in this incident
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF) — A Chattanooga Police Officer who attempted a traffic stop got shot at on Wednesday.
The officer noticed a traffic infraction around 7 p.m., according to the CPD. It happened on Shallowford Road.
They said one vehicle occupant “exited the vehicle and attempted to take control of the vehicle.” But he was not successful.
Then, that man engaged police and fired a gun at the officer.
CPD said the officer returned fire, but did not strike the suspect.
According to police, that suspect fled to a nearby creek bed. There, he put a gun to his head.
The man did not want to cooperate with police as they tried to talk him down.
So, they called in SWAT and the hostage negotiations team. They spoke with the man and talked him into surrendering.
Officers then took the suspect into custody.
They add that no one was injured in this incident.
