More People Traveling with a Firearm on a Plane

Chattanooga, Tenn. (WDEF) – The Transportation Security Administration said more people are traveling more than ever before and many are traveling with guns.

The TSA wants people to be prepared before they head to the airport.

Regional spokesperson for the TSA, Mark Howell, said so far this year 5 guns have been confiscated at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport checkpoint.

This is due to people improperly storing their weapon.

Howell said if you want to fly with your firearm, you must have it stored correctly and checked at the airline counter before making your way to security.

“On a day to day basis we will see firearms are a pretty regular basis. For the most part people are doing it the right way. but again, we are on a record pace for firearms at the checkpoint so we always have to constantly remind folks to make sure that you leave it at the ticket counter and you pack it properly and do not bring it to the check point because that’s going to get you into trouble.”
