Tree service worker killed in accident identified

DUNLAP, Tenn. (WDEF) — The tree service worker who was killed when a tree fell on him in Dunlap has been identified.

Police say 45-year-old Don Carlos Harmon Jr., known as DJ, died yesterday afternoon.

According to police, the homeowners had the tree service company because storms had caused a tree to lean up against two other trees. They were concerned it would fall on their house.

Investigators say while Harmon was working to remove one of the trees, it  buckled and hit him.

Chief Clint Huth, with the Dunlap Police Department, says this sad incident is hitting the community hard.

“DJ was well known. He was well liked by everyone in the community and it is just a sad day. Yesterday was pretty tragic and today is a continuation of that,” Chief Huth said.

Chief Huth says something like this happening is very rare in their area and doesn’t recall responding to a similar incident.
