TSSAA reviewing footage shot at Brainerd basketball brawl

CHATTANOOGA (WDEF) – The TSSAA is looking at the brawl that ended a high school basketball game prematurely over the weekend in Chattanooga.

The fight broke out during halftime of the Brainerd High and Austin East game Saturday night.

It started on the court among players, but people quickly came out of the stands to take part.

Hamilton County officials tell us one student was injured in the brawl.

Referees cancelled the second half and let the halftime score stand.

On Monday morning, TSSAA officials reviewed the footage taken during the fight.

We’re waiting on the letter they will send to the administrations of both schools on their findings.

And they will half to explain how they plan to prevent future brawls.

TSSAA Executive Officer Bernard Childress Cale told us it’s “very unfortunate situation that needs to be dealt with.”

The high school athletic organization could impose sanctions if they are not satisfied with the schools’ response.

But they prefer for the schools to work out the problems themselves.

Both basketball teams are currently ranked in the top 5 schools in class AA.
