Turnovers Haunting Vols During 3 Game Losing Streak

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) – Tennessee keeps losing a hold of the football whenever victory seems within its grasp.
After committing just one turnover in its first two games, Tennessee has coughed up the ball eight times during a three-game skid. Many of those turnovers have come at particularly inopportune times.
Oklahoma sealed a 34-10 victory over Tennessee with a 100-yard interception return. Georgia recovered a Tennessee fumble in the end zone during its 35-32 triumph over the Vols. In Tennessee’s 10-9 loss to Florida, the game’s lone touchdown came after the Gators recovered a fumble at the Volunteers’ 30-yard line.
Some of the mistakes may be attributable to youth. Tennessee started five true freshmen on offense against Florida.
The Vols (2-3) enter Saturday’s game with Chattanooga (3-2) knowing they must protect the football better.
